What are the Top Tattoo Styles at Patch Tattoo Therapy?

The other day I saw a list of not 5, 10, or even 20 tattoo styles, but rather more than 50 different tattoo styles. Given that tattoos have been around since ancient times and today are becoming increasingly popular, it is not surprising to see the tattoo industry grow. Tattoo styles often evolve and styles can also be merged to create hybrid pieces.

Most Desired Styles at Patch Tattoo Therapy:

Geometric Tattoos:

Geometric and Dotwork tattoos are very meticulous and detailed styles of tattoos. The use of fine lines, shapes and abstract patterns can be used by themselves or in combination with other tattoo styles. These tattoos are very precise and visually beautiful.

Micro Tattoos:

Micro tattoos are very small, minimalistic, and delicate. In some cases, they can be as small as a quarter.

Chinese Painting Style Tattoos:

This style is inherited from traditional Chinese paintings. The brushes have a sharp stroke, are focused on transition and change, and the color matching is very Asian.

Black and Grey Tattoos:

The Black and Grey style focuses on using various shades of black. Well-designed and executed tattoos in this style last a long time without fading. There are endless genres within the black and grey tattoo style, including Chicano, Realism, Japanese, Neo-Traditional, and so on.

Realistic Tattoos:

Realistic tattoos are often a type of Black and Grey tattoos but can be in color. The images are usually portraits of people, animals, machinery, clocks, skeletons, and so forth. Due to extreme details, only a tattoo artist with excellent drawing skills can deliver this style well. There are usually no distinct lines and mainly use light, dark light, and shadows.

American Traditional Tattoos:

American Traditional Tattoos originated in the West. Soldiers on the battlefield got tattooed because they feared they would not be able to be identified if they died. Sailors were also tattooed for the same reason after shipwrecks. The goal was to add a unique mark to one’s body. There are many old-school themes such as an eagle (honor), snake (strength), heart (family), anchor (stability), and so on.

The subject matter of the old school is relatively fixed and consists of mostly small tattoos. Instead of a blended black & grey sleeve, individual tattoo elements can be added independently without any integration with each other.

The lines are particularly rough and uniform, the color ratio is simple, and the style is retro and tasteful.

Watercolor Tattoos:

Outline Tattoos:

Outline tattoos are minimalistic, simple pieces that tattoo an outline that isn’t filled in. Typical ideas are animals, body shapes, florals, and countless other subjects.

Letters Tattoos:

Letter tattoos are classic tattoos of letters. People often desire tattoos of quotes, names, locations, and anything else memorable.

Tribal Tattoos:

Tribal Tattoos are one of the oldest tattoo styles coming from cultures in Borneo, Aztecs, India, Hawaii, Maori people of New Zealand, Samoa, and Polynesia.

The tattoos appear thick and strong with clear patterns.

Tattoos in Color:

Many tattoo styles can be done in color and look beautiful.

Other Types:

There are numerous other types not included in this list including Traditional Japanese Tattoos, Florals, Mandala tattoos, etc., but hopefully, this information can help you brainstorm what you are looking for and explore different ways on how to express yourself.
